Innovation as a function of
comparative advantage
hen innovation equates
differentiation, where
Wdifferentiation is a coefficient of
competitive advantage, product innovation
consequently results in product characteristic
differentiation.
However, where market absorption power is
small, product life cycles are short; calling for
innovativeness beyond existing thresholds
to drive mileage to the next level, says Jeff
Heasman Training & Consulting (UK) Managing
Director.
Presenting a paper entitled: “Product, Process
& Internationalization: Innovating for Success”
during the 2nd Insurance Institute of Botswana
held in Gaborone September 5 – 6, Heasman
said that based on the current climate, threats
and opportunities enshrined in Vision 2036,
nonetheless, the supply of skills mismatch from
the education sector is at variance with needs
of the job market, cascading to an oversupply
and resulting in high graduate unemployment.
According to Heasman, “It is our aspiration as
‘a’ people, that our Botswana will be a high-
income country and its people prosperous:
living in the full enjoyment of their potential.
“We must take deliberate steps to overhaul
the current economic growth model, moving
away from resource driven growth, to growth
based on high productivity, innovation and
competitiveness.“The Botswana society will
eventually become knowledgeable with a
relevant outcome-based quality education,
laying emphasis on technical and vocational
skills as well as academic competencies. More
so, Botswana would also utilize home grown
financial services capability to fund investment
opportunities and generate wealth through
Jeff Heasman Training & Consulting (UK) the export of financial services.” >>> P29
