Victaulic celebrates 100 years of innovation

and is set to broaden their scope in Africa.

During the 2019 Electra Mining showcase, the world’s leading manufacturer of mechanical
pipe joining systems Victaulic, had an interview with Engineer Magazine and shared their
journey, products and vision. This year Victaulic is celebrating a milestone 100 years in
operation. The company is an American company which has been operating in South Africa
for the past 11 years and has been active in Botswana for 3 years. Victaulic specializes in
mechanical pipe joining methods. The concept of grooved pipe joining methods started
during world war one when they had to quickly deploy fuel and water to the allied forces in
1919. They specialize in mining, fire protection, commercial buildings, oil and gas, power
plants, waste water treatment, ship building and water distribution pipelines. Our mechanical
pipe systems offer an alternative to welding, threading and flanging for joining two pipe ends.
All of it’s products are imported. We have 15 major manufacturing facilities across the world
and supply our products worldwide, with our Corporate Head Office in Easton, USA.

“Our involvement in Botswana is through distributors who are based in SA. A couple of
projects have already been undertaken in Botswana namely Orapa mine, Jwaneng mine cut
8 and fire protection supplied at the innovation hub for the iconic building and to some extent
at the Hilton Garden Inn. The Orapa installation was done by the mining employees after
training from Victaulic and the same applies with fire protection.” said Arrie Nel – Territory
Manager for Victaulic. We offer grooving and installation training to ensure that pipe ends are
prepared to specifications and that installation is done correctly.
Victaulic has been exhibiting at Electra mining since 2015 to date. This year they said has
been the better one of them all. The management is keen to come again at Electra Mining
2021.Victaulic products will definitely improve maintenance in the mining industry. The
Territory Manager also explained that Installation is easy, fast and reliable. For any new
projects we can offer a pipe joining solution for any industry. Victaulic would like to broaden
their scope in the SADC region but more specific to Botswana. We supply our products
globally through distribution, and in Africa we have presence in North, East and West Africa,
and are widely used across the industries in South Africa.
