18 Women`s Month ,,
Gents and great Ladies, today, March 8th,
we commemorate International Women's
Day with the rest of the World. We do not
celebrate it, but commemorate it, indicating
that women throughout the world are not
where they should be in the Sustainable
Development framework of Agenda 2030.
However, we do celebrate the achievements
of women in different sectors of development
in our society. This day gives governments,
civil society,communities, women, men, boys
and girls the opportunity to reflect on the
status of women and girls, the achievements,
opportunities the challenges, and solutions
thereof.
This year, the Theme, as selected by the
United Nations Commission on the Status of
Women, is Think Equal. Build Smart. Innovate
for Change .... meaning what? That achieving
a gender-equal world requires social
innovations by women and girls, for women
and girls, that work for everyone and leave
no one behind.
The innovative, ‘think equal' mindset takes
the needs of women and girls into account
right from inception, and formulates
different plans and policies whether it is day
care centers that offer workers solutions for
childcare, or the use of biometrics for Identity
to replace the formal registration documents
that many women may not comprehend.
Worldwide, and even here in Botswana,
organisational commitments to gender
equality by have risen since 2015, but fewer
than half of organisations have workplace Captain Kgomotso Phatsimo
