Engineers converged for the Engineers Forum
he Engineers Forum held between the 29th to the
31st of July is the first of many for the engineering
T sector in Botswana. Engineers Registration Board
(ERB) held a successful forum where they managed to
create dialogue, exchange knowledge and experiences.
This platform was also a trade exchange for services
offered by engineers locally to those who had visited from
as far as Zambia and Mauritius. According to the Forum’s
Project Manager Eng. Clare Mosarwa the forum concept
was conceived because ERB exists to promote the highest
standards of engineering practice in Botswana as well
as protect the welfare and interest of the public in the Mr Dikagiso Mokotedi
engineering practice. Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of
Infrastructure and Housing Development
During the same event the ERB Board Chairman Eng.
Moilwa spoke about the need for Botswana to have its own
testing facility as it is out of reach for many. It costs close
to half a million or more to have a product tested even
small ones. He applauded the learning institutions and said
they are doing their mandate well but as a country more
can be done to facilitate our graduate engineers for the
global space. Notably Eng.Mosarwa thanked the Engineers
for supporting the forum by turning up in their numbers
and urged them to continue doing so in future events. She
spoke on resolutions derived from the event and these
included the need to re-align and restructure the education Eng. Aupa Olaotse
system process. This is to enhance skills transfer and Engineers Regstraton Board Registrar
harness creativity through the value chain particularly in
view of changes in job culture. Another resolution was the
need to review current procurement processes to reduce
the unending red tape that stalls innovation locally as well
as the need for support from the local industry.
Most Engineering disciplines/sectors were represented
including Military, Manufacturing and Processing,
Agriculture , Renewable Energy and Recycling, Drone
technology and digitalisation in the construction sector
using Virtual Reality(VR).
